I tried to capture some macro shots of snowflakes today, it was pretty tricky, they were melting pretty fast. It was such pretty puffy snow, I had to attempt to capture it. (Click on them if you want to see them larger.)
Tech info for those interested in that sort of stuff: F 32, 1/250th - shot with a Canon 180mm macro lens.

Sweet little sister

This adorable little peanut is the new little sister to a little man who was one of my first sessions several years ago. She was so patient with all of the different spots we tried in their new house. I am so jealous of all of the great wall space the new house has for pictures!

Isn't he cute? I really wish I knew what he was chattering about, mom and dad are in trouble once that all turns into words! He is a talker. Its so much fun to me to see return clients, I love watching all the little people grow up, in that first year there is such a huge change.

Ok, so big sister wasn't so sure about me, but Daddy saved the day and provided a bit of entertainment, and it WORKED! Great session guys, it was fun.

After the shots at home, we made a quick run to the beach for a bit of variety. I love this moody shot of big sis. I hope all that running resulted in a good nap mom!

I can't believe these guys are so big now! The first time I photographed these guys the little one was just 9 months old. Now he's big enough to pull his big sister in the wagon! We had fun running in the fields at a great location near their home- I am so glad we tried that location. I might just need to go back for my own holiday cards. Great rolling hills, beautiful trees and grasses, stone walls- wow. Perfect.

Last night we celebrated the beginning of college basketball season. UCONN held their "First Night" celebration. My kids were thrilled to get Renee Montgomerys autograph on their UCONN hats. It was great to see everyone back and healthy. It was fun to see Shea back, now in her new coaching position. I am looking forward to another great season.

Such a sweet little guy

For this one year old session we did some photos in their backyard, and then headed out to the park. My little friend here really wanted to share his rock collection from the yard with me- there are several shots where you can see he is trying to give me something- such a sweet little guy! My personal favorite is the shot of him on the path in the woods. I played around with some textures on this image, though I don't believe it shows as well here as it would in printed form.

I was so lucky to get to photograph this sweet new little person. He was 10 days old in these photos, and though I am showing mostly sleepy looking photos, he was wide awake for most of our time. Thanks to mom and dad for getting me in to do the session while he was still so little, they change so quickly in the early weeks. By the time I get prints to these guys he will look completely different! Congratul

This incredible bride and groom got lucky with great weather for their wedding. I am so happy it turned out to be such a beautiful day. They celebrated their wedding on the Milford, CT Green, with Mayor Richitelli officiating.

Then they simply walked over to Rainbow Gardens for their reception! Here are a few of our favorite images. (I had Stephen Willett working with me again on this wedding.)

This little man was so much fun. He was such a happy guy, until we tried to stop him from playing in the street. We did part of our session at the Audubon Society in Milford, CT, and then a few quick shots at his moms friend's house. I am so glad we did, they had a great yard, with some great stone steps that really photographed well.

I had a bit of fun in the sun with this cute little brother and sister. I wanted to get this one favorite shot from the session up for mom. I have been pretty busy lately, and haven't completely finished proofing her session yet. So, here it is, with a bit of texture and colorizing effects just for fun. More to come ~soon!

Recent weather

Thursday night around 6:30 it got pretty dark around here. On our way home from the cancelled Milford RoadRunners track meet we made a quick stop to grab this shot of the impending storm. There was talk of possible tornadoes- and this certainly looked like it had potential. I am told by clients on the other side of town (the side under that nasty cloud) that it was pretty crazy with hail and wind for a few minutes that night.

I have a thing for teeny tiny things- I have a bit of a collection of them. I was pretty psyched to find this TEENY TINY little thing in my garden today. I should have put something in there for scale- its about the size of a quarter. Its so cute. Sadly I seriously doubt it will ever reach a decent size- the vine already looks a little weary. But its still pretty darn cute!

Isn't he cuuute? You'd never know how unhappy he was through most of this session. This little fella was right around 2 weeks in these. Once he fell asleep, really asleep, we were able to position him for the photos. It just took him a while to get comfy with the idea. I am really glad we persevered, it was definitely worth it.

I seriously cannot imagine getting down to less than 10 favorites from this session. I feel bad for the mom and dad....good luck choosing. this little man came all the way from San Diego so I could have the pleasure of meeting him. (ok, so there might be a few grandparents in the area also, who they might have stopped in to see while they were here) His parents are friends of some local clients, and they liked what I had captured of their friends little boy, so they scheduled a session during their visit here. I have to thank A & M for the referral, it turned out to be a great session, though I am sure mom and dad were fearing we had nothing. I knew we were golden, we have more than a few really sweet shots of the little guy. I owe a double super duper thank you to M for her dance routines that really helped get some great smiles from the little cutie.

Two of my favorite dancers had their recital at The Dance Studio in Milford last week. They look so very grown up in their costumes. Its just amazing. One of my favorite photos that I grabbed before we ran out the door to the recital.

Oh, and what a difference a year makes! This is her last year in August.

Babies babies babies

I attended a seminar recently that focused on techniques for photographing brand new babies. I find that stage so incredible, it truly fascinates me. I love meeting the new little people. The newer the better. So, I would LOVE to try out some of the ideas I learned at the seminar. I am going to give away 2 FREE infant sessions to the first 2 new moms or pregnant moms who contact me and follow through with a session in the first 2 weeks after the baby is born. Its very important that we take the photos in the first 2 weeks, the babies are still very curled, and sleepy and generally less aware of all the fussing we will likely be doing over them. In addition to doing the session at no charge, I will provide the family with a ring bound book of photographic prints with the best images from our session.

I have been helping another photographer (Mia Malafronte of Hamden) photograph Orange Little League, baseball and softball- all of the divisions. Its a pretty big undertaking, but its going well, its fun to see the kids excitement as they put new skills to use, and succeed in doing so. These are some of my favorites from tonight- I will have to go back and pull some other favorites from the other days. The glamour, the glitz, the sewage

Thats right- the glitz and glamour of what I do took me to the depths of Milford last week. I was working on photos for Milford Living magazine, and had the great pleasure (note sarcasm) of visiting the Welch's Point Pumping Station- thats right the sewage plant. I had no idea that little building had 4 stories BELOW IT. I got to see all 4! Thats right, 4 stories down in the sewage treatment plant. See what I mean about the glitz and the glam? It just doesn't get any better! Seriously the smell inside is so bad that the paint just peels off the walls, and all the metal railings are corroded from the gases. And its only May, I cannot fathom going down there in the heat of summer. Included in the price of my grand tour was the opportunity to see the folks who keep that place humming, clear a clog in the pump. Thank goodness for the "cherries jubilee", (sort of like Febreeze for the treatment plant). The assignment also took me to Milford Animal Control, where I met some great folks who take care of the animals, and my new pal, Daphne. She is a one year old Great Dane - what a sweetheart she is. Better yet, she does flips! She would have come home with me if I thought we could manage a dog right now, but sadly she is still at Animal Control.

This little guy is the son of a very good friend, he was last seen here at 13 days old , now he is 5 months, and on track to be in the 100% for cuteness. Such a happy little man. Must be all those crazy songs daddy makes up.

I had some fun with this brother/sister duo at Hammonasett Beach on Friday. They were really sweet, and made some really cute portrait subjects. Believe it or not these little daredevils even put their toes in the water...brrrrr. That water was painfully cold, but they did not seem to mind at all.

The FOG

Yesterday started out incredibly foggy in my neighborhood. I headed out to the beach to see how much more foggy it was there. Visibility was about 50-100 ft, really soupy! It was sunny at the same time though, really odd conditions- time to pull out the camera. You can see the low, thick fog at Anchor Beach in this shot. And a very close up of the water droplets on what I am guessing is a spiders web that was entwined on a beach rose plant.

Another favorite thing- sound spelling.

Sound spelling is the way kids learn to sound out words, and begin writing these days. My little friends wrote a "grossere" list for me this morning. I might need to frame it because its so darn cute.
